At Stance Capital our intent is simple: To construct portfolios that mitigate material risk and generate excess returns while at the same time allowing investors to align their portfolios with their belief systems. We call this Values-based Investing.
Responsible investing has historically been a trade off between following values and sacrificing performance. For a variety of reasons this is no longer the case. Investors who ignore material risks within their portfolios related to self-serving behaviors by the companies in which they invest do so at their own peril. At the same time, investors who understand these dynamics and look for companies that effectively mitigate these risks simultaneously create a platform for alpha generation.
The phenomenon described above is values agnostic. It applies to investors whose values might align around the environment, or their faith, or gender equality, or nothing at all. The point is that it is possible to reduce risk and generate alpha with the same approach.
